A Haarnack Harp from Newport

This Ladies Gothic was made in Newman Street so it was probably made before 1867 when the Haarnacks opened a shop and premises in Charlotte Street.

These photos were taken in the spring of 2000.

I recently visited this harp at home and in the hands of its owner, it sings as sweetly as a bird. I should like to thank her very much indeed.

And this is the harp in the 1950s

Ted and Frances Richards of Carno (Nansi's cousin) with Nansi sitting at her harp with the 'Lady Brittain' cup alongside. The photograph was taken at the National Eisteddfod in Rhyl 1951. The cup will be presented to the 'Cerdd Dant' Choir for 2 voices or more (minimum 16 members) that is the winning choir in the National Eisteddfod, in memory of the White Dove Harpist (Lady Brittain)

The text was kindly translated for me by Heulwen Bateman whose sister- in -law was one of Nansi Richards' pupils
